The World is Closer to The Flu A Pandemic

The world is close to the status of swine flu pandemic. Flu A (H1N1) has spread wide outside the mainland United States, where the initial case was found.

"Globally, we are still in phase five, but the phase is close to six (pandemic)," said Keiji Fukuda, Assistant Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) as quoted AFP, Rabu (3/6/2009).

Phases Six or pandemic flu means that the pigs are in a global epidemic status. This phase applies if a community outside the United States experienced outbreaks of bird flu A (H1N1).

"It is clear that the virus spread to many countries. We know there are some countries that outbreaks of bird flu from infected people who travel, and then bring the virus and pass it on," added Fukuda.

UK, Spain, Chile, and Australia is a country with the largest addition of the number of cases of flu A (H1N1) . It appears that shortly will quickly spread to each country's territory.

"But we are still waiting for the spread of this virus in a community. So I think this is still in transition phase towards pandemic," said Fukuda.

According to WHO records, cases of flu A (H1N1) has spread in 64 countries and infecting 18,965 people. As many as 117 people are reported killed. Highest number of cases there are in Mexico with 5029 cases.
