Sony Ericsson T715 Announced

After dabbling with multimedia and eco phones, Sony Ericsson announced a new addition to its T-series phones - the Sony Ericsson T715. It's a compact, stylish slider that offers 3G connectivity and a 3 MP snapper.

Just like a FashionTV model, the Sony Ericsson T715 relies heavily on looks to impress - the back cover is brushed aluminum and the phone will be available in two colors - Galaxy Silver with piano finish and Rogue Pink with mirror finish. Its size also helps make a statement - 91.5 x 48.0 x 14.9mm and 96g make it quite compact for a slider.

The T715 sports a 3.15 megapixel camera with Cell-ID geotagging and a LED flash. Unfortunately, there's no autofocus. Don't get your hopes high for the video recording capabilities as well.

The SE T715 screen is 2.2-inch big with QVGA resolution and, Sony Ericsson claim, good legibility under sunlight. It also offers tried music functionality with TrackID, PlayNow and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, as well as FM radio with RDS.

Many of you will be pleased to hear that the T715 will happily accept microSD cards.

The speedy HSPA of the T715 will be utilized by a NetFront browser and a YouTube application as seen in previous handsets by the company. There's also video calling, though that uses the main (and only) camera.

Some more photos of Sony Ericsson T715

Sony Ericsson T715 will come with some useful Google integration - Google Maps and Google Search, accessible from the homescreen.

Speaking of the homescreen, T715 offers something Sony Ericsson call a "smart desktop feature" - there will be reminders (including special animations for birthdays and global events) and notes on the homescreen to make sure you don't forget something important. We've already seen notes appearing on the home screen in past SE phones, so we'll see exactly what this new feature offers.

Here's the official demo video of the new Sony Ericsson T715:

The phone will come in two versions - T715, which supports 2100MHz HSPA, and T715a, the American version that supports 850/1900/2100MHz HSPA. Both versions have quad-band GSM/GPRS.

Sony Ericsson T715 will be available in select markets in Q3 2009 with expected pricing as usual not mentioned.

HTC Hero an Android Mobile

Quite as expected today HTC officially announced their third Android-running handset - HTC Hero. Sporting the most complete feature set of the three it is destined to battle it out with Samsung I7500 for the full-touch Android throne.

The new HTC Hero runs on the familiar Qualcomm's MSM7200A chipset, with a 528MHz CPU, 288MB of RAM and 512 MB of ROM. Just like the HTC Magic and the HTC Dream, the Hero sports a 3.2" TFT LCD touchscreen display of HVGA resolution (320 x 480 pixels). However this time it will use the capacitive technology and will support multi-touch as visible from the demo video published by HTC (embedded further down this article).

Connectivity is perfectly covered with the HTC Hero as it will feature quad-band GSM and dual band UMTS (with HSPA) support as well as built-in GPS receiver and a Wi-Fi antenna. The mandatory USB and Bluetooth are present too.

HTC Hero

The final attention-grabbing features of the HTC Hero are a 3.5mm standard audio jack, a microSD card slot and a built-in accelerometer.

HTC Sense

HTC Hero pioneers the new custom UI that HTC have prepared for the Android OS. HTC Sense is based on three basic principles dubbed as Make it Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected. Here are the three principles as HTC explain them.

Make It Mine
Make It Mine, is about feeling your HTC phone was created for and by you. To do this, HTC encourages you to dictate and organize how you want to access the people and content in your life in a way that fits best for you. For some, this means adding glance view widgets that push content like twitter feeds, weather and other content to the surface while others may want quick access to business-focused information like email, calendar and world-times. HTC is also introducing a new profile feature called Scenes that enables you to create different customized content profiles around specific functions or times in your life.

Stay Close
Today, staying in touch with the people in your life means managing a variety of communication channels and applications ranging from phone calls, emails, texts, photos, status updates and more. HTC Sense takes a different approach by integrating these communication channels and applications into one single view enabling you to stay closer to your important people. With HTC Sense, friends Facebook status updates and photos along with their Flickr photos are included along side their text messages, emails and call history in a single view.

Discover the Unexpected
Many of the most memorable moments in your life are experienced, not explained. HTC Sense is focused on providing a variety of these simple yet innovative experiences on your HTC phone that will sometimes bring you moments of joy and delight. It can be something as basic as turning the phone over to silence a ring or as simple as improving the smart dialler for making calls quicker. HTC Sense also includes perspectives, a new way for viewing your content such as email, photos, Twitter, music and more in different ways.

Here's the official demo video of the new HTC Sense UI that comes to enhance the already quite user-friendly Android OS:

As Orange seem to have some sort of deal going on, they also announced today that they will be launching the HTC Hero in the UK in the early July. They have even prepared a live preview of the Her and its new HTC Sense UI. Here, have a peek:

HTC Hero will be available in three color versions - White, Brown and Graphite (Orange exclusive), with the white one coming with fingerprint-resistant Teflon coating. It will hit the European shelves in July with Asia and North America following later this year.

DMP-B15 Portable Panasonic Blu-ray Player

Panasonic's new DMP-B15 portable Blu-ray player. With its bigger-than-a-laptop size and wild pricetag (for a consumer device), it's obviously a niche product, but that's not to say there aren't hints of consumer friendliness in here. Overall the hardware is light and strong, and while we felt a bit of heat venting out the sides, it's not uncomfortable, and the disc operation is virtually silent. Startup time and disc load times are comparable to most dedicated home Blu-ray players -- certainly not best in class, but passable -- and we couldn't get the player to skip despite our best efforts. The screen is really great, with a good amount of viewing angle and brightness for the category and plenty of resolution to differentiate HD content. We spotted a bit of pixel crunch in menus and stills, but once the motion started we could barely differentiate pixels. Sure, it's hard to imagine a reason for most people to pick up a DMP-B15 over a cheapish Blu-ray playing laptop -- the thing is monstrously thick, and can't even handle a traditional laptop-style screen orientation, only everything but -- but the hardware is reliable enough for kids to handle on the road, and the single-use makes it a good home Blu-ray player for plugging into that second HD-starved TV

New Satellite's Toshiba

Remember those new Satellite's Toshiba that dropped in Europe a week or two ago? Seems like they're making the scene Stateside starting today, alongside several of their siblings. As previously noted, the A500 is a 16-inch multimedia machine (starting at $749.99), while the U500 ($849.99) is a 13.3-inch guy more suited to on-the-go computing. Newly announced are the M500/M505 (with 14-inch high-def LED display, starting at $699.99) and the P500/P505 (an 18.4-inch desktop replacement with slot-loading DVD drive, starting at $799.99). All the new Satellites include multimedia command keys, webcam, face recognition software, harmon/kardon speakers and, of course, the world renowned eSATA/USB combo port.

Dozen Megapixel Phone Camera Pixon12

The dozen-megapixel cameraphone Samsung M8910 Pixon12 is getting closer to its release date and sources in Spain have already gotten hold of the unlocked no-commitment price tag there. One of the hottest mobile phones this summer can be yours for "only" 639 euro.

The price tag of 639 euro makes the Samsung M8910 Pixon12 more expensive than the 16GB version of the new iPhone 3GS, which comes with a no-commitment price of 619 euro in Italy.

On the other hand, the Pixon12 sports a 28mm wide-angle 12-megapixel sharp-shooter with autofocus, Xenon flash and additional power LED flashlight. The handset is also capable of taking D1-resolution videos at 30 fps.

The Samsung Pixon12 specs sheet goes on with the 3.1-inch 16M colors AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, built-in GPS receiver, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support and finishes with the microSD card slot able to accommodate cards with a capacity of up to 16GB.

According to our source Samsung M8910 Pixon12 should start selling in Spain by the end of August, although at the Pixon12 announcement Samsung said it will be available across Europe in the end of this very June, with the rest of the world following up in August. Perhaps plans have changed. That should give the Sony Ericsson Satio some room for breathing, right?

“HP Mini PCs have no equal when it comes to industrial design, use of innovative materials and overall feature sets,” said Ted Clark, senior vice president and general manager, Notebook Global Business Unit, Personal Systems Group, HP. “The HP Mini 5101 is truly a work of art, a sophisticated companion PC crafted for the trend-savvy mobile professional who needs functionally, durability and style.”

When configured with the optional six-cell battery, the HP Mini 5101 delivers up to eight hours of battery runtime.(4)

Mobile professionals can stay ultra-productive with the HP Mini 5101 PC’s small, low-power Intel® Atom processor, which enables the unit to run cooler, use less power and improve battery life. An optional, integrated Gobi-powered HP Mobile Broadband module allows users to conveniently access the Internet, corporate intranet, email and other critical information around the world.(5) Other wireless technologies include integrated Wi-Fi Certified WLAN(6) and optional Bluetooth® 2.0. An integrated 2-megapixel webcam allows for easy still-image capture, web-conferencing or video-enhanced instant messaging(7) with no additional hardware.

The versatility of the HP Mini 5101 can change how students learn and is the practical answer to providing each student continuous access to a PC in one-to-one computing. Its suite of wireless, (6) multimedia and security capabilities allows students to learn wherever they have Wi-Fi access – from the classroom, to the library, to their homes.

The HP Mini 5101 is built to last, featuring HP 3D DriveGuard, which offers a three-axis digital accelerometer chip that sends a signal to shut down the hard drive upon sudden movement or shock. The HP Panel Protection System includes a scratch-resistant acrylic LCD cover and magnesium hinge bracket for added durability in demanding environments.

New Updates HDTVs Internet By Vizio

Sure VIZIO only just showed off new updates in its high end XVT series, but it's already planning the next generation of LCDs with VIZIO Internet Apps included. Packing widget functionality, 802.11n wireless networking and slider QWERTY Bluetooth remote, the SV422XVT, SV472XVT and VF552XVT Connected HDTVs are coming home in November, October and December, respectively. Already on deck to serve up content for your widgets are Vudu, Revision3, Facebook, Twitter, Rhapsody, Blockbuster OnDemand, Showtime, Flickr and more. The biggest surprise? There's apparently no price premium planned for these features, with the 55-inch clocking in at the same $2,199 price as the model it's replacing, though the 47-inch jumps $200 over the previous edition to $1,699, while adding the local dimming LED backlit technology previously reserved for the 55-inch. The 42-inch will be the first and cheapest available at $1,199 (sans LED) -- we'll see if that bar is low enough to get viewers to jump into the internet-connected display future.

The New Dust and Water Resistant Phone - 3720 From Nokia

A new Nokia phone is getting ready to join the ranks of dust and water resistant phones. The new device - called Nokia 3720 (perhaps "classic" is not a wild guess here) - is IP54 certified, meaning it's dust and splash resistant.

The IP rating is an international certification that specifies the level of weather-proofing of any product. The first digit indicates protection from foreign objects - 5 in this case means that while some very fine dust might get in the phone, it won't impede its operation. The second digit is for the level of water protection - in the case of the Nokia 3720 it's a 4, meaning the handset is splash resistant.

We are also guessing there is some kind shock resistance, but at this point it's not clear how much exactly.

It has been quite a while since Nokia released their last dust and water resistant phone - the Nokia 5500 Sport. Back then it was running Symbian OS, but that doesn't seem to be the case with entry-level Nokia 3720. Even from this blurry photo it's pretty clear that we are looking at an S40 device here.

In the same time Samsung have released two modern ruggedized handsets - the 3G enabled Samsung B2700 and the cheaper Samsung B2100 Xplorer.

The rest of the information about Nokia 3720 we have is limited - it will be available in September in T-Mobile stores among others. We guess we'll just have to wait for subsequent leaks and the official announcement to find out the rest of the specs.

Mobile Navigator For iPhone From Navigon

One of the major SatNav suppliers Navigon have released a version of their Mobile Navigator through Apple AppStore. The new app runs on the Apple iPhone turning it into a fully-fledged SatNav solution.

The Navigon Mobile Navigator is now available at the App Stores in Europe. North America will be following shortly, Australia is in the works.

The Mobile Navigator app uses map data by NAVTEQ, so you should be getting the same grade of map coverage and details as provided by Nokia Maps. The maps will be preloaded on the device so there will be no need downloading it live as you go around.

TomTom might have been the first company to announce mobile navigation software for the iPhone but it seems that Navigon are the first to release one.

The Navigon's Mobile Navigator makes use of the popular NAVTEQ maps, which can be preloaded in the storage memory so the software doesn't need any data connection. This will be very helpful especially when navigating abroad where roaming charges can be hard on your monthly bill.

The Navigon Mobile Navigator for iPhone will have 2D and 3D maps, automatic portrait and landscape modes, precise voice navigation, pause during calls, speed assistant, real signpost display, take-me-home function and much more familiar features of the current Navigon software products.

Here's the official demo video of the Mobile Navigator for iPhone in action:

The current pricing of the app is the same as the regular mobile version of their Mobile Navigator 7. The app along with a full map of 40 European countries will cost you 74.99 euro until the end of June. Afterwards the regular price will be 99.99 euro.

Soon a new regional version will also become available that will cost you 49.99 until the end of June with a regular price after that of 69.99 euro.

And finally, a LITE version will also be available free of charge. It will run on iPod Touch devices as well and will not offer active route navigation. The LITE version however will have the latest map material and will display POIs (Points of Interest) in the vicinity.

The only requirement for using the MobileNavigator on the iPhone is the new Iphone OS 3.0.

Samsung S6700, C5510, M2510 and M2310

Four new handsets with a distinct audiophile flavor appeared on the Samsung website today. The sliders Samsung S6700 and Samsung C5510 offer decent mid-range functionality, while the music-oriented duo Samsung M2510 and Samsung M2310 are targeted at music lovers on a tighter budget.

Easily, the most interesting of the bunch Samsung S6700 offers quad-band GSM and dual-band UMTS (with HSDPA 3.6Mbps) support. It packs a 2.4" QVGA LCD display, capable of showing up to 16 million colors. There's also a 3 megapixel autofocus camera on board, complemented by a dual LED flash.

Samsung Samsung Samsung Samsung
Samsung S6700

Samsung S6700 has 120MB of internal memory, expandable by up to 16GB through the microSD card slot. It other noteworthy features are built-in GPS receiver, Bluetooth and USB.

The other mid-range offering, Samsung C5510 sports a 2.2" 16M color LCD display of QVGA resolution. Quad-band GSM support and dual-band UMTS, make it capable of worldwide roaming (although the 3G speeds won't be available everywhere).

Samsung Samsung Samsung Samsung
Samsung C5510

The camera onboard the Samsung C5510 has 2 megapixel resolution and sadly no autofocus. Bluetooth v2.1, USB v2.0 and a microSD card slot with support for up to 16GB memory cards complete the specs list.

Moving on to Samsung M2510 see quad-band GSM support and a 2.2" TFT QCIF display. The 3G support has been sacrificed in order to bring the price down, but all music-related features seem intact.

Samsung Samsung Samsung Samsung
Samsung M2510 in blue and black

The Samsung M2510 comes with DNSe audio enhancement technology, FM radio with RDS and a 3.5mm standard audio jack. There is also a microSD card slot with support for up to 8GB memory cards for storing your music collection. Bluetooth and USB give you two more options for transferring it to the phone. A 1.3 megapixel camera should do for adding images to the contacts in your phonebook.

Samsung Samsung Samsung

Finally come to the clamshell Samsung M2310. It sports a main 2" Q-QVGA (120 x 160 pixels) display and 1.06" secondary one with a resolution of 96 x 96 pixels. Quad-band GSM support is also present as well as a VGA camera, Bluetooth and USB.

Samsung Samsung Samsung
Samsung M2310

The internal memory of Smasung M2310 is only 9MB but the microSD card slot can handle up to 8GB cards. A VGA camera completes the list of what the handset has to offer.

As of now there is no information about the availability or the pricing of any of the four new handsets.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G announced

Today T-Mobile announced their second Android-powered smartphone. The full-touch T-Mobile myTouch 3G will run on version 1.5 of the OS and, unlike the G1, will sport no hardware keypad whatsoever.

The company that introduced the world's first Android handset last September is now reinforcing its ranks with the slimmer and more compact myTouch 3G. Functionally identical to the HTC Magic, it will offer a nice alternative for the not-so-heavy texters, who can live with the onscreen QWERTY keyboard instead.

The T-Mobile myTouch 3G will come with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display of HVGA resolution, identical to the one found on the T-Mobile G1 pioneer. It also comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band UMTS (suited for the T-Mobile network) as well as GPS and Wi-Fi.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G T-Mobile myTouch 3G
T-Mobile myTouch 3G

There will also be a 3 megapixel auto focus camera, Bluetooth and USB connectivity onboard. It runs on the same Qualcomm 7201A platform with a 528 Mhz CPU and has 192 MB of RAM just like the other HTC-manufactured Android devices.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G will come with the exclusive Sherpa app preinstalled. It uses GPS to help you find cinemas, restaurants etc. in the vicinity. Unlike other similar applications though, Sherpa remembers the choices you've made in the past so it can make better recommendations in the future.

The most impatient users will be able to preorder the T-Mobile myTouch 3G, starting from July 8 with the actual shipping taking place towards the end of the same month. The handset will cost 199.99 US dollars on a two-year contract and will be available in white, black and red color versions.

Dell Vostro 1220 The 12" Model

It's hard to hate on Dell's Vostro lineup: cheap is cheap, and there's nothing wrong with that. In truth, it could probably look a lot worse, but there's just something vaguely depressing about these unflattering leaked shots of what's apparently a crimson version of an upcoming 12-inch Vostro 1220 model -- in comparison with the fairly clean lines of the existing lineup, these new curves aren't doing the laptop any style favors, though it's at least an improvement over the existing 12-inch model. Specs are certainly alright, with a Core 2 Duo T6750 processor (remember back when every small, cheap computer wasn't running Atom?), 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, SD card slot, ExpressCard and even a fingerprint reader, and we're sure the price is even better. No word on a release date.

T-Mobile Dash 3G is Now Official

The T-Mobile Dash 3G was officially announced and as expected is headed for a July release. It's a first for T-Mobile - their first Windows Mobile-powered 3G-capable phone. T-Mobile's 3G network is still expanding and is expected to cover 200 million people in the US by the end of the year.

T-Mobile is expecting about 40 percent of the people looking for new phones to go for smartphones and the T-Mobile Dash 3G is targeted at those people. The phone is an update of the old Dash and it's designed remains pretty similar - full QWERTY Windows Mobile-powered phone, manufactured by HTC.

T-Mobile Dash 3G T-Mobile Dash 3G
T-Mobile Dash 3G • keypads of Dash 3G (left) and HTC Snap (right) side-by-side

In fact, the Dash 3G is T-Mobile's version of the HTC Snap (also known as Maple or S522). It offers 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, plus Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 2 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot for cards up to 16GB. The display has QVGA resolution and can display up to 65K colors.

The Dash 3G runs on a 528MHz CPU with 192MB of RAM, the OS is Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. At this point, there is no information whether it will be upgradable to WinMo 6.5 or not. Anyway, Office Mobile and seamless synchronization with Outlook is as always one of WinMo's biggest strengths. T-Mobile hope this and the GPS will attract customers by helping them "stay connected, organized and traveling in the right direction".

The phones are not exactly the same however - the keys of the Dash 3G's keyboard have been rearranged, some were replaced and on of the signature features of the HTC Snap - the "inner circle" button - is missing.

The T-Mobile Dash 3G will be available in black with red accents starting July at T-Mobile retail stores as well as the online store and select authorized dealers.
