LG GD880 Mini and LG GT350 announced, sort of

Two days ago LG unveiled a couple of new touchscreen-enabled phones to reinforce the midrange segment of their portfolio. The LG GD880 Mini is a full-touch handset dubbed as the most compact phone with a 3.2" screen, while the LG GT350 is a hardware QWERTY-equipped device with a distinct youthful appeal. Unfortunately, the two lengthy press releases reveal few technical details about the two phones.

In addition to the 3.2" widescreen touchscreen, the LG GD880 Mini boasts a 5 megapixel camera, 3G with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi and GPS. FM radio and a built-in microSD card slot complement the pretty nice upper mid-range package.

LG didn't confirm the resolution of the GD880 Mini display but rumor has it that it will be 854 x 480 pixels.

The LG GD880 Mini will be available in Europe starting in March, followed by other markets. Pricing is yet to be determined but we are guessing we will be getting a better taste of the phone next week in Barcelona.

LG GT350 is a full QWERTY side-slider with a 3" WQVGA touchscreen display. Coming to succeed the popular LG KS360, which sold more than 5 million units worldwide, the GT350 should deliver better messaging experience and social network integration. The interface is optimized for better Facebook and Twitter experience and there are even dedicated shortcuts on the keyboard for accessing them.

Unfortunately, for some reason LG didn't see fit to reveal more of its specifications. We suppose a good part of the reason is the lack of much upgrade compared to the KS360.

The LG GT350 will be available in Europe in April and other markets will follow. The four inbox color options are Aqua Blue, Purple, Light Silver, and Black.

LG GS500 Cookie Plus puts 3G on the table, GS290 is to follow

LG announced another member of their Cookie touchscreen handset family. The entry-level LG Cookie Plus is a slightly pimped up version of the original KP500 Cookie. Including 3G with HSDPA and a better UI it will give users another option when looking for a touchscreen phone on the cheap.

According to LG, one of the coolest new features of the GS500 Cookie Plus is the Cartoon-like UI. Sounds familiar? Yeah, that's because the Cartoon UI is one of the most promoted features of the Samsung Corby too. And by the way, the icons also look suspiciously familiar to what Samsung offered. Hoping that noone notices, are we?

But don't worry if the Cookie Plus with its HSDPA doesn't seem too much of an upgrade to you. LG plans to offer a full batch of new Cookie handsets in 2010 so we are looking at a first of many here. Their press release mentions another mysterious Cookie, called LG GS290. It should be available in the UK in mid-March, but details will follow later.

Getting back to the "star" - the LG Cookie Plus is definitely set on a mission to conquer the world and will roll out globally to 45 countries beginning with France and Italy in early March. Pricing is yet unknown though.

iPhone 4G Mistery??
